Open the door: “How are you feeling about everything that’s happening?”
Validate their feelings: “It’s okay to feel upset or confused. I’m here to listen.”
Encourage questions: “What do you want to know more about?”
Highlight their importance: “You’re a very important part of this family.”
Create special time: Dedicate moments just for siblings to express themselves or have fun.
There are also books and support groups designed specifically for siblings of neurodivergent children, which can help them feel understood and less alone. If you notice your other children struggling with their feelings, therapy can offer a safe space for them too.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or just need someone to listen, therapy is here to support you and your whole family. You don’t have to do this alone.
